June 2015 was Dystonia Awareness month in Canada!!

Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder causing involuntary movement of the muscles. Body parts affected either pull, spasm, tense up and move you into abnormal and often painful postures!

Now you know the very least about it...

Do read on!  Always more to come!!

October 27 - 29th, 2015

Update: Success!

My package, after 16 bids raised $151 and I will dine with my bidders on November 15th. Thank you Atco and Riggoletto's Cafe!

I am happy and proud to be participating in the ATCO Christmas Bureau Auction on October 27 - 29th 2015!

I am donating a package that includes the following:

1 copy of my memoir

'A Twisted Fate: My Life With Dystonia'

A dinner for three (including me) at Riggoletto's Cafe in the downtown core.

Since my book is about a little known neurological movement disorder that I live with, I am passionately promoting awareness for dystonia because of its strange, awkward often painful symptoms that are sometimes genetic yet many cases are not. It can present itself with no prior knowledge of its existence!

This book is a story of struggle and loss, it also speaks to the heart, educates and

tells of all the good people I have made along the way! I do hope you bid and come

dine with me!!

For more information about the auction taking place online October 27 - 29, visit FACEBOOK or the ATCO website!

Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year for giving and taking. This would be a great gift for reading fans everywhere!

Brenda Currey Lewis was a typical, active child. But when she was seven years old her life changed dramatically. Generalized dystonia (dystonia musculorum deformans) turned her muscles against her. This rare neurological movement disorder causes muscle groups to tug and twist the body into abnormal postures. Brenda started walking on the outer edge of her right foot, and within a year she was wheelchair bound. The symptoms gradually spread through most of her body. For almost forty years Brenda has experienced uncontrollable muscle movements that have wreaked havoc in her body, but not her spirit.

This is a story of resilience in the face of a little-known, confusing, and debilitating condition. The author takes you on a journey from skating rinks to surgical suites, from bicycles to wheelchairs, from doubt to determination. Brenda's quirky sense of humour makes this candid account of life with dystonia a thought-provoking and an entertaining read.

Happy 2016 to all!

My memoir has been published for two years now. Time flies when you do what you love and I love this book! 2015 was a great year for "A Twisted Fate" and I feel that 2016 will be even better!

My memoir has been out for 6 years now, it is still a very relevant subject and story. Dystonia is still much of a mystery to health professionals, the public and certainly for those that live with it day after day. As research continues, we move closer to a cure!

This page, as of October 25, 2020, is getting a much needed face lift. But please check out the Facebook page at A Twisted Fate: My Life with Dystonia, twitter @curreylewis and                   A_Twisted_Fate  on Instagram!!! Stay safe, BCL!
